Hapé (also called rapé, hapeh, rapeh, and rapey) is a tobacco-based snuff used in South American shamanism. This ancient medicine is a mixture of powdered plants, usually containing some kind of tobacco and tree ash, which is blown into the nose of the receiver through a special pipe called a Curipe or Tepi.

This ancient tobacco-based snuff has been used for centuries in South American shamanism to facilitate healing and transformation.

In fact, in Amazonian traditions, Tobacco is revered as a Master Plant. His spirit is invoked to purify, protect, and rid the receiver of negative energies, preparing the mind for profound experiences with other powerful plant medicines such as ayahuasca.

Sharing Hapé was traditionally done in a ritualistic way. Because the medicine can have stimulating or psychoactive effects (depending on what plants were used to make it) receiving Hapé can bring about a profound experiences of relief, peace and grounding.

Because they consider this medicine to be sacred, the indigenous take Hapé as a prayer calling upon the forces of Nature, the blessing of the animals of the forest, and power of medicinal plants to heal us and give us strength.

Even for those of us who don't live in the Amazon, or who might live in urban, industrialized areas, we can still incorporate this powerful shamanic practice to support our busy, distracted, stressful modern lives and bring balance to our Divine Masculine energies.
